Hackers and scammers engage in fraudulent activity to obtain your personal information, financial information, or steal an individual’s identity. Unfortunately, scammers impersonate known and trusted organizations, such as SSM Health Oklahoma Spine Hospital (“OSH”), to deceive individuals and conduct fraudulent activity. This article summarizes fraudulent activity OSH has seen and advises on actions you can take to protect yourself.
Financial Fraud
Scammers may impersonate OSH employees via email, phone call, or text message to obtain financial information. Scammers may claim to work with a billing department or government agencies and inquire about medical debt. Scammers may ask for:
- Credit card or billing information
- Social security number
- Insurance information
Please note, caller ID can easily be faked. If you are unsure if a call, email, or message about billing information is legitimate, please contact OSH’s billing service provider, On-Point Healthcare Services, at (405) 673-6931 or at [email protected], or log into your Patient Portal.
How to keep yourself safe from scammers:
- Do not trust caller ID
- Always verify questionable calls or emails by contacting OSH via an official channel
- Enroll in MyCareCorner for a secure way to view and pay medical bills
Recruitment Fraud
Some scammers will pose as OSH recruiters and make fake job offers. The scammers may request sensitive information, such as banking details. Learn more about recruitment fraud and what you can do if you’re a victim.
Patient Portal Email Scams
Scammers may send you a fake email telling you that you have an important and unread message in your MyCareCorner account. These fake emails will take you to a fake website that can:
- Steal your MyCareCorner password
- Ask you for personal information
- Download malicious software
Fake emails can be difficult to detect, as scammers will use official logos and brand images from the company they are impersonating.
